Our Story
Our path to becoming the fine home building company we are today took many channels. Our founder, Steve Sorrell, started his career in construction in St. Johnsbury, Vermont in 1977. After developing his skills and realizing his love for the trade, Steve got a job working for Concord Construction based out of Essex, VT.
After a few short years, Steve was tasked with building and running a road crew that would travel up and down the east coast building Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream stores, Carvel Ice Cream stores, Friendly’s Restaurants, etc. He spent the better part of 5 years running multiple crews and when it was all said and done, he took his knowledge of management and construction back into the area he was most passionate about, custom residential home building.
Opening his first company in 1991, he went on to build custom, high end homes throughout Vermont. Eventually, in 2001, Steve opened Sorrell Construction Management, Inc. Continuing to service his long time client list and constantly adding new and exciting projects into his portfolio, he gained the expertise and knowledge required to excel in fine homebuilding.
In 2012 Steve’s youngest son, Sean Sorrell, joined the company full time after a childhood spent working on site and watching Sorrell Construction develop into the company it had become. At the time, SCMI was a company with 5 employees focusing on one project at a time.
Over the last 10 years, Sean and Steve have tripled the size of their company in both project size and staff size, managing multiple projects at any given time. The main trait that was passed from father to son is an emphasis on making sure the end result of each project meets the standards developed through Steve’s career.

The final piece to our puzzle has developed over the last few years into a partnership that has elevated our ability to give any homeowner “I can’t believe I live here” feeling. Including LCB Design Group in our projects helps us turn any project into a masterpiece.
Their ability to see a finished space and communicate that vision with the clients via 3D renderings and excellent communication skills pairs perfectly with our ability to develop a logical pathway to achieve the desired end result. A project completed with Sorrell Construction and LCB Design working together really are show stoppers, and are always fun and exciting projects.
